Opening your heart and your Mind

We realise how cultivating self-love & compassion is a challenge for most of us in these modern times and create a space where you intend to radiate  and attract love and compassion for yourself and others in your life could be a task that you do not necessarily know how to do.

So Julia and I, Seda Shambhavi designed a 7 days retreat for you to have the opportunity to break your own daily routine and experience yourself in a totally different outer environment but perfectly familiar inner environment of all of yours. We intend to hold a space for you where you can experience observing and discovering your own inner dilemmas, resistances, emotional and behavourial patterns and thoughts which are basically adopted layers of layers of conditioning behaviour and emotion patterns. Once you are aware of these patterns, you have the choice of embracing them or leaving them. This is your own decision. We would like to give you the opportunity to make a choice.

It is possible to dive deep into your inner layers of self and admire the jewel in you.

Day1: Earth descending in lying down position – deep relaxation & healing

To learn how to intentionally relax your mind & body, which is crucial for a deep & fulfilling meditation practice in the seated posture, we start in the lying down position and use certain breathing & visualization techniques to come in contact with the body and its soma. You start to release tension & blockages, which are unprocessed experiences and emotions and in this way let the body start to heal itself

Day2: Working with the seated posture – Shamatha/mindfulness meditation

After we have learned how relaxation of body & mind actually feels, and how we can use our awareness to release tension, we build our seated posture in a relaxed way and start to focus our awareness on the breath

The second part of this session will be a guided meditation on the clarity and infinity of the mind, where we learn to watch our thoughts and emotions, without getting involved with them

Day3: Cultivate ultimate wisdom in understanding the nature of reality – Vipassana

After we learned how to relax in our posture, calm the mind by focusing on the breath, we experience the ever-changing nature of reality in direct experience by learning how to systematically scan the body and observe the upcoming sensations, always looking for tension and releasing it with the already learned techniques of breath, visualization and awareness

Day4: Opening the heart, cultivating self-love – Metta

Well prepared & able to sit with a relaxed body & mind experiencing & observing the impermanence of life, we will start to opening the heart with the loving-kindness technique.

To be able to cultivate compassion and give love to others, we first have to learn how to love ourselves as we really are without judgement. This guided meditation will be your ultimate tool whenever you feel insecure, experience difficulties in your relationships or just need a big dose of loving-kindness

Day5: Free your mind from the judgmental egotistic drives – Reflections on equanimity

In this guided analytical meditation, we experience & understand how the ego produces judgement towards ourselves and others

This meditation has the aim to understand how our ego is building its own prison which separates us from the love and compassion we want to experience in our relationships

Day6 – Love & Silent day: Cultivating love & compassion for others – Metta 2

After we learned how to use this meditation to make peace with ourselves & rest in the always available source of self-love, we open our hearts further and learn how to give our compassionate love to others – even to those people, to whom we might feel resistance or have some difficulties with. Learning this technique and practicing it regularly will change the whole atmosphere around you and heal your relationships.

Day7: Freeing  Yourself and others from sorrow & suffering – Tonglen

With this visualization technique coming from Tantra-Buddhism you will learn how to free yourself & others from negativity, pain, depression and suffering


Noble Silence / Mauna

We recommend to keep silence and enjoy your own company during the meal times and the time after dinner till after breakfast . During these time you can bring any issue to course instructors, Julia and Seda Shambhavi. One day would be in total silence.

Daily Routine:

6:00-7:00: Sadhana (Pranayama with bandhas and mudras followed by mantra meditation) (Seda Shambhavi)

7:00-7:15  Break

7:15– 8.30: Gentle Vinyasa Yoga Therapy  (Seda Shambhavi)

9am – 10:00: Breakfast

10:00 -16:00 Free time for Ayurvedic massage or gentle nourishing treatments and self-care

Lunch is served between 13:30 and 14:30

16:00-16:45 : Sharing Inner and external experiences, asking questions in a circle

17:00-17:40: Meditation session (Julia)

18:00-19:00:  Yin Yoga (Julia)

19:00: dinner

20:00 -21:00: Yoga Nidra / Meditation in shala or sitting on the beach listening to the waves in silence)  (Seda Shambhavi / Julia)

22:00: lights out

Course Instructors / Facilitators

Seda  Shambhavi started yoga in Istanbul at Ananda Marga Yoga centre in 1985 during her University years. Since then yoga has always been in her life with its different limbs at different density and even though she tried different disciplines like Tai Chi or T.M. afterwards she settled down with yoga as a life style since 1998 and decided to live her life around yoga.

She practised Iyengar tradition of Hatha Yoga at East London Iyengar Yoga centre and was introduced to Donna Holeman’s principles of yoga by Sharon Matarazzo and Angelika Grohmann at Bodywise in London. She practised Integral yoga with Shri Aurobindo influenced Sama Fabien who is the founder of Aurolab. She did one year intensive TTC run by Aurolab. She studied Therevada Buddhism and Vipassana at Suan Mokhe in Thailand and Tibetan Buddhism with the renowned Lamas including H.H. Dalai Lama the 14th in Mc Leod Ganj, Dharamasala, India.

She has completed her yoga teacher training which comprises a holistic approach inclusive of Ayurvedic knowledge at Sivananda Yoga Academy in Madurai Ashram in India.

During her long stay in Mc Leod Ganj she self-studied ayurveda and received ayurvedic treatments which lead her afterwards to obtain her certificate in Ayurvedic Massage and Panchakarma Therapy from Dr.M. Sathyanandan – S.M. Ayurveda, Panchakarma and Yoga Therapy Centre, Varkala and a Certificate in Kalari Massage from Dr.Shaji -E.P.V. Kalari Centre, Palai in India.

Seda did Ayurvedic Healing Course with Dr. David Frawley who is the founder of Vedic Institute in the States. She participated to some seminars and workshops run by Dr. David Frawley at the Vedic Institute in Holland.

On one of her long Indian trips, she met the right person, Dudiji for her Reiki initiation level I and years later she received the second level from Fadime Emir in 2009.

She also did the Yoga and Anatomy and Yin Yoga intensive workshop with the revolutionary Yoga anatomy teacher Paul Grilley at Triyoga in London. She’s been studying Tantra since 2002 and did a Tantra workshop for Couples and got initiated for Cobra Breath with Hanna & Martin, Transcendence; Authentic Tantra just before she founded and opened Surya Yoga retreat centre in Datça, Turkey in 2005.

Seda completed first three levels of Transformational Breathing Technique Course developed by Dr. Judith Kravitz and lead by Nevşah Fidan in 2006.

Seda got trained to be an Osho Active Meditation Teacher at Osho Meditation Centre in Pune, India and received a title for Surya as Osho Meditation Activity Centre in January 2008. During her stay at Osho Meditation Centre, she also had the opportunity to do the AcuEnergetics Workshop run by Kevin Farrow. She shares her knowledge and experience of Tantra, AcuEnergetics and Osho Active Meditations with her students in and out of her lessons during her intensive workshops/retreats.

In 2010 she organised a Yoga Therapy course for yoga teachers in co-operation with Paramanand Institute in Indore, India. The director and the teacher of yoga therapy, Omji delivered the course facilitated by Seda at Surya Yoga. Seda has found the opportunity to complement her knowledge of Ayurveda and Yoga with this particular course and started practising yoga therapy a means of healing her students and seekers.

She worked with an active birth leader gynocolist in Turkey and completed a prenatal yoga and active birthing course run by Janet Balaskas.

In 2015, Seda completed her 500hrs Teacher Training with Swami Govindananda and Hormone Yoga Therapy with Shakti at Sivananda Yoga Peetham, Kerala.

Seda worked with various renowned yoga and meditation teachers like Claire Missingham, Angela Farmer, Victor Van Kooten, Jeff Oliver, Rod Stryker, Swami Govindananda, Svarup and Premartha, Günther Niessen, Janet Balaskas, Ganesh Mohan (Ayurveda Specialist), Kia Miller, Tommy Rosen, Gurmukh and many more.

She completed Kriya Yoga Course at Parmath Niketan, Rishikesh and got the permission to teach Kriya yoga.

As she believes in on-going self-development and professional training, she keeps taking workshops on yoga, breath, healing and ayurveda. Recently she’s started a two year Homeopathy diploma course run by Homeopathy Association in İstanbul in co-operation with Greek Homeopathy School and Ass., which she believes is the right asset for her healing and curing profession complementery to her yoga therapy and ayurvedic healing knowledge and experience.

Seda has been doing a long Svastha Yoga Therapy course ( An approach of using yoga with a perspective of physiotherapy and ayurveda developed by Mohans inspired by Krishnamacharya) to train as a yoga therapist since 2016. She will have finished the 350hrs of training in July 2019.

She’s been teaching yoga and ayurveda since 2005. Since the lack of reference books on Ayurveda in Turkish, she translated the book called The Ayurvedic Diet by Dr. Dennis Thompson and recommended it to her students as a reference book to study. She is a leading Ayurveda teacher in Turkey who started teaching at Bilkent University in Ankara last December (2017)

She has got ongoing Svastha Yoga Therapy classes, one to one prenatal sessions, Ayuryoga workshops and Ayurveda in Depth and Specialist Training  Courses in Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya and Datça.

Seda Shambhavi became a member of teachers team of an International Yoga School in India called Parimukti Yoga School teaching Ayuryoga (Yoga for body-type) at Advanced Level Teacher Training Courses starting December, 2018.

She graduated her first batch of yoga teachers training them in the style she herself developed as Holistic Yoga in 200hrs in 2016 and currently is training the second group in 2019. She graduated her first batch of Hormon Yoga Teachers in 2017. She will be graduating the second and the third batches of HYT in May 2019 in two different towns.

Julia Hecht, Meditation experience & education

Since very young age, I am interested in the exploration of the human psyche and the philosophical ideas & questions about existence.

The 1st meditation experience was a Zazen weekend during my studies of psychoanalysis.

Focusing on the scientific approach of understanding human consciousness with the tools of psychology, western & eastern philosophy and cultural studies, this remained a single experience for a long time.

15 years later, during my 1st yoga-teacher-training with Cherryl Duncan suddenly everything what I studied and understood intellectually transformed into direct experience. A daily yoga & meditation practice became the most important center of my personal life as a profoundly ongoing transformative process of self-realization, which fills me with confidence, joy & gratitude.

After several vipassana silent retreats I met the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala and took refuge. Walking further on the path of compassion, I became deeply attracted by the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa and his lineage, starting to enter the tantric path with several courses hold by the Dharma Ocean foundation.

In addition to my yoga & meditation practices and teachings, I started to study Ayurveda to gain a deeper knowledge of the body and the possibilities of natural holistic healing.

All those techniques contribute to a balanced life of inner freedom and contentment, which is constantly evolving and changing.

It gives me great pleasure to convey these effective tools to others and to hold space for the transformation processes of my students.
